A Really disturbing news was reported in the early hours of Saturday, March 16th 2024, when the Nigerian Army tragically recovered about 14 lifeless bodies of soldiers killed by members of the Okuama Community, Delta State. The men were under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdusalam; tragically, neither the soldiers nor the brigade’s boss – Lt Col. OH Ali, would live to recount the narrative of a harmony mission gone fiendish.
Regarding the military, the soldiers of the 181 Land and/or water capable Brigade of the Nigerian Armed force were on a quiet and mediatory mission after a detailed instance of mutual conflict among Okuama and Okoloba People group in Ughelli South and Bomadi LGAs of Delta State separately.
Specialists say the soldiers were trapped and killed without hesitating, by an equipped youth group of the local area, in the most blasphemous way, a move which drove the military to attack the local area looking for the guilty parties who killed a Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, twelve soldiers and a Regular Citizen.
However, On Wednesday, 20th March 2024 Night, President Bola Tinubu promised that the sacrifices of the 16 soldiers killed last week in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, would not be in vain.
Talking during the breaking of Ramadan fast at State House, Abuja, with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and the initiative of the House, Tinubu said the departed military personnel’s would be offered befitting burials and national honors and distinctions.
Delta State Chief of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, unveiled that the military was at this point yet to allow the police admittance to Okuama. According to Abaniwonda, the region remained volatile and deserted.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said, “In responding to distress calls, they met the end of their lives in a savage manner,” in reference to the national military men’s death. Allow us to attempt to identify and represent the way that they merit the sacrifices they have made for Nigeria. “We show respect for every one of our people in uniform, and we feel for them. I will before long make further declarations, however they should have a befitting burial and National honors.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu advised legislators to take advantage of the holy month of Ramadan to show compassion and support the less fortunate in society, reminding them not to forget their constituents. He also said “We are making sacrifices for the country, and we are assuring citizens that there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated to the legislators. “We should have confidence and, kindly, remember your voting public and recollect what they are going through”.
